Keep The Faith: Interview With Deric McCabe #WrinkleInTime

While in Los Angeles for the SOLO: A Star Wars Story press trip, we were able to interview A WRINKLE IN TIME’S Deric McCabe and celebrate its in-home release.  A WRINKLE IN TIME is directed by Ava DuVernay from a screenplay by Jennifer Lee and Jeff Stockwell based upon the beloved novel by Madeleine L’Engle, and stars Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Storm Reid, Levi Miller, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michael Peña, Zach Galifianakis, and Chris Pine.

Synopsis: Meg Murry and her little brother, Charles Wallace, have been without their scientist father, Mr. Murry, for five years, ever since he discovered a new planet and used the concept known as a tesseract to travel there. Joined by Meg’s classmate Calvin O’Keefe and guided by the three mysterious astral travelers known as Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who and Mrs. Which, the children brave a dangerous journey to a planet that possesses all of the evil in the universe.

There we sat in a theatre, Deric leading the class as we interviewed him about his role in A WRINKLE IN TIME.  It felt just like school as he called on each person for questions…it was adorable.

Of all the bubbly, funny and incredibly engaging things Deric said, the answer that struck me as a mom was his advice given to kids looking to get in the acting business.  He said,

Oh, when you don’t get any jobs, keep the faith.  Yeah, I think that’s good.”

I shook my head in agreement and said, yes that is good.  As parents, we have the single greatest influence in our children’s lives.  It is up to us to surround them with positive reinforcement.  There’s a scripture that I love in 1Timothy 4:12 it says, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.” Giving your children the opportunity and freedom to live out their faith will do exactly that!  In my opinion A WRINKLE IN TIME is all about taking a leap of faith.
