Travel is hard. In some cases, impossible. At the very least, it’s impractical. This year has been terrible for travelers. Even the most courageous among us have met with obstacles that block us from living out our passion. No doubt, you are scratching at the walls at this point to visit a favorite country or someplace new. Since so many famous destinations are off-limits with no sign of change, you have no other alternative but to seek out other alternatives! That’s why I present my fellow wanderers with these at home travel options to bring those famous destinations to you.

Travel Videos

There is so much you can do on Youtube these days. We’ve come so far from the teaser clips and promotional coverage travelers used to watch to vicariously satisfy their wanderlust between trips. Now we have live streams and video uploads with 360-degree mobility. You can look in any direction throughout the video with the simple click of a mouse. It’s more like being there than ever before.

Travel Books

If you want to be low tech about it, that’s alright too. Stimulate your imagination and grow your knowledge by reading more about the places where you would like to go. One of the great things about the most famous destinations is that they have the most literature. Your options range from the most highly illustrated, to the densely informative. By the time you are done absorbing it all, you’ll feel like it’s somewhere you’ve already been. Lots of travelers are writers, too. You can tell that by reading the reviews on Tripadvisor. Instead of planning a traditional trip, turn this exercise into a research paper just for fun.

Change Your Surroundings

Part of the joy of travel is being in a totally different place. You can get the feeling of being somewhere else, just by changing your own surroundings. try a hand at redecorating and use inspiration from the place where you want to go. Bring Paris, Barcelona, or Nepal right to your doorstep and spread the essence of your favorite locals in visually stimulating and even aromatic ways. target as many senses as you can by cooking the food, and playing the music.

Local Inspiration

Lots of the most famous destinations also have influence in other parts of the world. It may be that you have a localized pocket of just such a place. You can satiate your thirst for travel by looking around your own backyard. Just like a Chinatown, or a Little Italy, two common examples, your city might have it’s own carved out section inspired by other parts of the world. If you go to Wee Britain, remember to watch out for the Poppins.

Google Earth

Google earth lacks the seamlessness of a live video stream, but what it lacks in fluidity, it makes up for in range of motion. You can virtually travel anywhere on the planet with Google Earth. Because it’s Google, you can also learn a whole lot about any place on the planet where you would like to go. Particularly in the case of famous destinations, you would like to visit. Launch from home into space and land anywhere with the click of a button and get nearly every perspective on your desired destination.

You and your family can stay safe at home during the holiday break while taking a trip around the world.  Please let me know where you all go virtually, and how much you enjoyed it.
