8 Lifehacks That Really Work
The idea of lifehacks is amazing. One little trick that will make your life easier that you never would have thought of. Unfortunately, a lot of them don’t work. That’s why I went on a mission to find lifehacks that do work. Here are just a few of my favorites.
Plant forks in your flower bed to keep out cats
If you’ve got a garden or even just a few potted plants inside that your cats or neighborhood cats like to climb in plant some forks with the handles half-buried in the dirt and the forked part sticking up. Cats don’t like the pointy “plants” and will stay out. This works on birds as well. By the way, I confirmed this with Natasha Nichols of We Sow We Grow!
A pot with hot water can replace an iron
If your iron breaks and you NEED to iron your clothes then a pot with hot water in it makes a great temporary iron replacement. Just rub the bottom of the pot over the clothes that need to be ironed out. Make sure that the bottom of the pot is clean though, you don’t want to rub anything onto the clothes and get them dirty.
Remove Wrinkles from Clothes in the Bathroom
Another way to remove wrinkles from clothes is to hang them in the bathroom and run a very hot shower. The steam will fill the bathroom and work the wrinkles out just like an iron. Just make sure you leave yourself some time for the clothes to dry. No one likes wearing wet clothes.
Use dry spaghetti to light difficult to reach candles
If you have a candle that you just can’t reach your hand into with a match or lighter then try lighting the end of a piece of dry spaghetti on fire. It catches quickly and has a much longer reach than a match.
Store Sour Cream and Cream Cheese Upside Down
If you notice that your sour cream and cream cheese starts growing moldy before you can finish it you don’t have to buy smaller containers. Instead, turn the containers upside down in the fridge. This will keep the tight vacuum seal and prevent anything from being able to get inside.
Coffee Ice Cubes to Keep Homemade Iced Coffee Great
One of the biggest reasons people hate making homemade iced coffee is how quickly the ice waters down the coffee. But have you ever considered making ice cubes out of coffee? Millionaire Youtuber Graham Stephan swears by his 20 cent iced coffee, just imagine how much you’ll save over going to Starbucks!
Put Newspaper at the Bottom of Your Trash Can to Absorb Liquids
There is no doubt about it, the bottom of your household trash can is one of, if not the most disgusting smelling things in your entire house. It’s true in every house. Except for those that put down newspaper to absorb the liquids that naturally pool there. Crumple up the newspaper into little balls at the bottom so the liquids soak into the newspaper instead of the bottom of the can. This will cut back on the amount you have to clean it.
Mount Towel Racks Inside a Cabinet to Store Lids Easily
Storing pots and their lids together is one of those problems that have plagued humanity since the invention of pots with lids. But with this lifehack, it isn’t a problem anymore. Mount a towel rack inside your cabinet to give the lids somewhere to lean. Then when you open the door the pots are on the shelf and the lid for that pot is hanging opposite it on the door.
